Server agent
A small program on the server that sends the state of the machine every 60 seconds.
What it collects
- CPU, memory and network;
- disks: space, activity and health (SMART);
- temperatures and the GPU;
- Docker and Podman containers;
- systemd services;
- the error lines of the system journal (journald);
- the state of PostgreSQL, if it finds it on the machine.
It does not collect the errors of your applications: for those you need an SDK.
Install
Download the program into /opt/closeyourit-agent/, with its service file:
arch="$(uname -m | sed 's/x86_64/amd64/; s/aarch64/arm64/')"
sudo mkdir -p /opt/closeyourit-agent
curl -fsSL "https://github.com/bussolabs/closeyourit-agent-community/releases/latest/download/closeyourit-agent_linux_${arch}.tar.gz" \
| sudo tar -xz -C /opt/closeyourit-agent
sudo curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/bussolabs/closeyourit-agent-community/main/examples/closeyourit-agent.service \
-o /etc/systemd/system/closeyourit-agent.service
Write the two settings in /etc/closeyourit-agent.env:
CYI_ENDPOINT=https://bugs.example.com
CYI_TOKEN=cyi_s_…
Then start the service:
systemctl enable --now closeyourit-agent
The cyi_s_… code is created in the app, on the servers page.
With Docker, use the image ghcr.io/bussolabs/closeyourit-agent with the same two settings; the repository has a ready docker-compose.yml.
Variables
| Variable | What it is for |
|---|---|
CYI_ENDPOINT | the address of your installation |
CYI_TOKEN | the server's code |
CYI_INTERVAL | how often it sends data (60s by default) |
CYI_HOST_NAME | a different name for the machine |
Good to know
- Temperature exists only on physical machines: on virtual servers it stays empty.
- For the health of physical disks you need
smartmontools.
