Documentation / Using CloseYourIt
Servers
The state of your machines on one page, with history and alerts when something breaks or fills up.
The Servers page shows how your machines are doing: how busy they are, whether they have space, whether their services run. The data comes from a small program installed on the machine, the agent. Server agent explains how to install it.
Connect a machine
- Open Infrastructure → Servers and create a code for the agent.
- Install the agent on the machine with that code: see Server agent.
- Within a minute the machine shows up in the list with its data.
A Kubernetes cluster uses a different agent: see Kubernetes.
What you see for a machine
The list shows every machine at a glance. When you open one you find these tabs:
| Tab | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Overview | CPU, memory, disk, load and temperature right now, plus Needs attention: pending security updates, reboot required, failed services, errors in the system journal |
| Metrics | charts for processor, memory, disk, network, temperatures and graphics card |
| Disks & hardware | the disks with their free space, SMART health status, the database found on the machine |
| Containers & services | Docker containers, the processes using the most, systemd services |
| System log | error lines from the system journal over the last 48 hours |
| Operations | mute alerts, disconnect or delete the machine |
| Alert rules | which rules cover this machine |
Temperature exists only on physical machines. On virtual servers it stays empty.
From the Overview you can also open a ticket about that machine.
History
In the Metrics tab pick the period: 30 minutes, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. The choice applies to every chart in the tab. The page refreshes by itself at each agent push, about once a minute.
Databases
If the agent finds PostgreSQL on the machine, it shows:
- whether the database answers;
- open connections and how many are left;
- the state of replication (the copy on another machine) and its delay;
- the space used and the largest tables.
The Databases page gathers every database found on the machines. For each one you see its size, how much it grew over the last 7 days and which machines it lives on.
Alerts
New organizations come with the basic rules ready: machine unreachable and back, failed service, SMART disk failing, container down, database unreachable, stale data, pending security updates.
Other rules watch a threshold you pick: CPU, memory, disk, temperature, database connections, replication delay. You create them in Alerts → Alert rules: see Alerts.
A disk that is filling up
Once a day CloseYourIt looks at how fast each machine's data space is filling. If at this pace it will be full within 14 days, the Data volume filling up alert goes off. It is not a fixed threshold: it warns you before the disk reaches the limit, not once it is already there.
Mute, disconnect, delete
In the Operations tab:
- Mute alerts: the machine stays in the list but no longer alerts, until you unmute it.
- Disconnect from fleet: the agent stops sending data. The history stays. You undo it with Reconnect to fleet.
- I reinstalled the agent here: for a few minutes the next install that shows up takes the place of the old one.
Delete removes the machine and all its history, for good. It asks you to type the machine's name to confirm. If the agent is still running, the machine registers again, but empty.
